Losing Weight Let's face it. Whether you have just a few pounds to lose or a you are facing a more significant weight loss journey, losing weight is usually hard work. Old habits creep in when you least expect it, and before you know it, you've eaten those cookies or the bag of chips without even thinking about it. By keeping a food diary, you will know that you need to keep track of what you are eating. Using a food log obligates you to think about everything that goes in your mouth. Just the act of having to write it down can be a deterrent for eating something that you probably should not have. Food logs are a great tool to add to the mix when you are on a mission to lose weight!
Healthy Habits A good food log will give you the opportunity to record other aspects of your daily food consumption. For example, there should be a place to log in your daily vitamin and water intake, your mood while eating (bored, sad, restless, anxious, happy, etc). An additional factor that you might find important is a place to record your daily exercise. By seeing the whole picture before you, it will be much easier to recognize patterns in your habits. You might notice that you are not getting enough of one food group and too much of another. Getting and staying healthy can become a habit in itself, so keeping a daily food log is a great way to promote your health.
Nutritional Awareness Even if you are at a desirable weight, it can be extremely useful to keep a food log to see that you are eating as healthy as you can. Maintaining your ideal weight is just one aspect of being healthy. As important as how much you eat, is what you eat. For example, if you find yourself lacking in fruits and vegetables, you'll become aware of it quickly by keeping track of your daily food intake with a good food diary.
Food Allergies If you have a food allergy, it becomes imperative that you examine everything you are eating in order to eliminate the problem-causing food. By keeping a daily log of what you are consuming, it will be much easier to determine which food is the culprit. Food allergies can be serious and the faster you know what is causing symptoms, the less chance you have of experiencing a frightening trip to the doctor or hospital.
Get Started Now As you can see, there are many benefits to watching what you eat. There are many resources for finding a good food journal. Whichever one you choose, make sure that it allows you to record the data that is the most beneficial to you.
